Jesus' Morph Pt1

Matthew 17.1-13, Mark 9.2-13, Luke 9.28-36b
The story of Jesus' transfiguration is told by three of the evangelists in the New Testament, Matthew, Mark and Luke. The transfiguration story has been called by "A glimpse of the Kingdom Power", or "A Preview Of The Kingdom of Heaven" but I call it a "Glimpse Of The Christ's Glory".

Mountain top experiences for Christians are essential to our faith. For some they may be few and far between, for others they may be an every day occurrence. However God allows us to have Mountain Top experiences that we would remember His power, His love, His faithfulness and His reality in our life.
Martin Luther King Jr
For some mountain top experiences are for ministry.
In Martin Luther King, Jr.'s preached his last sermon on April 3, 1968. In his address, the night before he was assassinated, he combined the experience of Moses looking from Mt. Nebo toward the promised land with the vision of glory on the Mount of Transfiguration. He said:
Martin Luther King Jr
"I don't know what will happen now. We've got some difficult days ahead. But it doesn't matter with me now. Because I've been to the mountain top. And I don't mind. Like anybody, I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place. But I'm not concerned about that now. I just want to do God's will. And He's allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I've looked over. And I've seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people will get to the promised land. And I'm happy tonight. I'm not worried about anything. I'm not fearing any man. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord."cited by C. Jack Richards, Lectionary Homiletics, February 1999, Volume X, Number 3, pp. 12- 13
For Martin Luther King Jr. his mountain top experience got Him through until the next day knowing full well he was to be martyred for God. After his death he became an inspiration for people's right movements, equality and love for generations to come.
For some, mountain top experiences occur during suffering. Think of Daniel in the lion's den, Elijah suffering for God and having his Mt. Carmel experience with the prophets of Baal.

Think of John Bunyan in jail for his faith receiving visions, which later were written down in the book, Pilgrim's Progress, that has became a source of great comfort and strength to millions of people.
For others mountain top experiences are part and parcel of our Christian life. It may be our conversion,
it could be our first experience of Christ, church, genuine Christian love, or God given direction or a promise from God, etc. But they are there for our remembrance. We can look back and know God's handiwork in our lives, His blessings, HIs goodness, His mercies and His power.
